Your Ex Still Texts You? Here Are the Reasons

We all have that one ex who broke our hearts and left. When a person like that tries to enter your life again, it must mean something. It doesn't have to be a big deal, but trust me, the reason behind it exists. If you ask yourself "why is my ex texting me when he broke up with me?", I can't really blame you. It's really hard to read mixed signals from someone, especially if that person was once a big part of our lives. What could his texts actually mean? Even if you ask him directly, it doesn't have to mean that you will get an honest response.

Why Is My Ex Texting Me When He Broke up With Me?

There may be a lot of reasons for him to do so, and I will tell you about six most probable explanations for his behavior. It's up to you to choose how to respond, but anyway, my honest advice is to be careful with people who have hurt you before.

1. He wants to get back with you

Men are really bad at openly talking about emotions, and they would rather be silent than admit something that will reveal their vulnerability. Therefore, if he actually wants you to be his girlfriend again, he probably wouldn't say it directly. Instead of that, he will probably choose to casually text you and to talk about almost anything rather than that. Still, you should be really careful, especially if you still have feelings for him. Getting back with him could be bad for you. If he calls you the way he used to when you two were together, for example, or tries to remind you of all kinds of beautiful moments that you two once shared, he's probably trying to soften your heart and make you let down your guard. If he obviously tries to hook up with you again and if he didn't even say sorry, you have every right to be mad at him.

2. He just wants to see how you're doing

Maybe, however, he wants to check if you have someone new or if you're happier without him. We are all curious when our exes' lives are in question. Maybe he wants to know how much impact he has had on your life. Maybe he is jealous even after you broke up and wants to find out if you've already replaced him.

3. He feels guilty and wants you to feel better

When your ex texts you out of nowhere and asks you about your health and overall well-being, that means that he has been thinking about your breakup a lot. Leaving someone can sometimes be as hard as being heartbroken. Maybe he feels guilty because he knows that you've spent many sleepless nights crying because of him. If this is the case, then your ex is a good guy. Don't mix concern with emotions, though. Even if he cares about your feelings, it doesn't mean that he wants you back. It might, but you won't know until you ask him.

4. He misses you

Maybe your ex was recalling some of the loveliest memories of your relationship, and he actually started missing you. Maybe he wants you by your side every time he goes to sleep, but the bed is empty. If you two have been together for a long time, it's completely normal for you to miss each other, especially if you've broken up because of something trivial. It happens. If you miss him too, don't tell him that until he tells you first. He is the one who broke up, so he should be the one to make things right. If the breakup wasn't your mistake, of course. If he talks to you like you are still together and he is even more gentle than before, that must mean he still has strong feelings for you.

5. He is bored and likes to spend time on social media

If he is addicted to the internet and social media such as Facebook or Instagram, it's possible that he sometimes doesn't have someone to talk to, and he is not mad at you, so he gladly texts you. Men don't think too much. He probably didn't think about that question such as "why does my ex still text me?" could pop up in your head. If his tone is a bit passive and if he just writes generic stuff, that's probably it: he is bored and wants to text someone, even though that person is his ex who he left.

6. He wants to be friends with you

Some people can hang out with their exes without any problems. Maybe he doesn't want you to be his girlfriend, but he still thinks that you're a great company and he wants to spend time with you. If you are better now and if your heart has healed, why don't you try to be friends with him? If you two have stayed on good terms after a breakup, there is no problem in him texting you. If he is really friendly and talks to you in a different way, he probably just doesn't want to lose you as a person.

Summary

Ex is called ex for a reason, but when your ex tries to enter your life again, you should be cautious. You know him the well and you will be able to determine which of these explanations refer to your ex's behavior. It's your decision what to do with his texts. You can reply, delete them, or just read the texts with no reply. All in all, if your ex texts you, he certainly has a reason, and there's no doubt about it. There are many more explanations, but these six are by far the most frequent ones.
