The Best Movies to Watch With Bae

Nearly every guide on interesting things to do with your girlfriend includes movie night and this is for good reason. Watching romantic movies together can make it feel as if you and your girlfriend are living different romances, too.

As the main star expresses his love for his lead actress, you can easily turn to your date and tell her, "This is how I feel about you". And she'll totally get, it because she's experiencing it through the movie.

Snuggling up on the sofa or, better yet, in bed, is one of life's most simple pleasures. So grab your favorite snacks, plus a bottle of wine, and then choose from our list of the best movies to watch with bae.

1. Once (2007)

Once is a romantic musical based in Ireland starring Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. It's a story of a girl who meets a guy, and they're both struggling musicians in Dublin. She ends up helping him put together a demo of all his musical performances. As the story goes, they fall in love. Well, the process should be worth a visit.

The movie is filled with beautiful scenes of the quaint towns in Dublin with songs that will tug at both your and your girlfriend's heartstrings. You might even discover a new song you both love that will always remind you of this moment in time together.

2. Titanic (1997)

This timeless love story is famous for its record-breaking box office performance as well as the number 1 chart-topping song by Celine Dion My Heart Will Go On. The story is a familiar tale of love across the classes. The leading lady Kate Winslet is an upper-class traveler on the doomed ship's maiden voyage.

She falls in love with a boy, played by Leonardo Decaprio. He is a worker below deck. They meet and fell in love, in spite of the obstacles that should have kept them apart. As we all know (spoiler alert) tragedy strikes, and the ship sinks. The most romantic emotional scene is of the boy sacrificing his life for the girl he loves.

With tasteful love scenes, this movie can be enjoyed over and over again. Take the opportunity to promise your girlfriend that you would give up your life for hers. If that's what it takes to prove yourself to her, she will be even more in love with you.

3. The Vow (2012)

The Vow is one of our top movies to watch with bae. What makes this movie super sweet is the fact that it is inspired by the true story of Krickitt and Kim Carpenter. The wife gets into an accident which puts her in a coma, and when she finally wakes up, she's no longer able to recognize her husband.

He tries to win back her love by pursuing her all over again. To have a husband that stands beside you, cares for you, and still wants to win your heart after years of being together is the kind of love every girl dreams of.

Played by Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, The Vow will have you and your girlfriend ready to make your own promises to each other. With touching lines like:

"I vow to love you now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is once in a lifetime love. I vow to love you, and no matter what challenges may carry us apart, we will always find a way back to each other."

This quote reminds couples that love can last, in spite of how difficult circumstances may be. While this line will encourage you to be loyal to your lover for the rest of your life: "I vow to always hold you to tenderness…. to live within the walls of your heart and to call it home."

4. The Shining (1980)

Scary movies might not strike you as the ideal film to watch with your bae, but many guys enjoy the fun of their terrified girlfriends squeezing them and hiding their pretty face in their brave chest.

The Shining is a psychological horror film based on a novel by Stephen King starring Jack Nicholson. The main character and his family move into an old hotel with a horrifying past. Living by themselves in isolation makes Jack lose his sanity. He ends up terrorizing his family members, leading to the famous scene of him using an ax to smash a hole in a door, stick his head into it, and shout, "Herrrrrre's Johnny!"

Watching horror movies with your girlfriend allows you to be her real-life hero. Obviously, there's no actual danger, but you still get to enjoy the feeling of comforting her and letting her know that she'll always be safe as long as you're by her side.

5. Rust and Bone (2012)

Rust and Bone is a French–Belgian romantic drama starring Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts. The film is about a single father and former boxer, Ali. He meets his love interest, Stephanie, when he saves her from a fight in a nightclub where he works as a bouncer.

Their relationship develops further when she suffers a serious accident and loses both her legs. As Stephanie depends on Ali's physical strength, a deeper affection slowly grows between them.

The couple seems to come together more out of necessity than out of fondness. The reason this new relationship came to be is hinted at in this meaningful quote from the movie:

"It's always at the hour of trouble and confrontation that the missing member aches."

This is a story that will make you and your bae appreciate having each other. Not every relationship is forged from similar backgrounds or personality characteristics, but this movie proves that love can still blossom as long as two people need each other.

6. The Notebook (2004)

This is one of the most romantic movies to watch with bae, and you will both always remember it. This flick is about true and lasting love.

However, many years later, after marriage, a life together and her diagnoses of dementia, she can't remember her husband nor the love they shared. He would visit her every day and read from the Notebook made up of the letters.

This movie is a real tearjerker, so don't feel embarrassed if you end up sobbing into your girlfriend's arms. Lots of guys chart The Notebook as their favorite romantic movie.

The film's tagline is: Behind every great love is a great story. This movie will make you and your sweetheart believe that you can create your own everlasting love story together.

7. It Happened One Night (1934)

This award-winning movie is lighthearted entertainment for a guy to watch with his girl. We understand the reporter takes falling in love in stride when he famously quotes:

"I want to see what love looks like when it's triumphant. I haven't had a good laugh in a week."

Let this movie inspire you both not to take things too seriously in your relationship. A healthy sense of humor will allow you to actually enjoy yourself and be happy. Being able to laugh whenever you can with your lover will ultimately make your bond stronger.

Once awoken, he and his fellow passenger, Aurora, must work together to ensure their spaceship and the rest of the sleeping passengers reach their destination safely. During the course of this adventure, the longing for contact and affection leads to a romance between the two conscious astronauts.

Your girlfriend is sure to get a kick out of the awkwardly sweet scenes of Chris falling for the starlet. They will bring back the memories of the early days in your relationship when the butterflies and uncertainty of each other's feelings added a little excitement to your life.

10. Up (2009)

Yes, this is an animated movie and, yes, it's supposed to be a movie for children and, yes, we know that it's a comedy! But when you watch this with bae, you'll realize that it's one of the sweetest love stories you've ever seen (granted it's only in the first part of the movie but...). This is why we had to include it on this list.

Watch the story unfold about a life long love between a little boy and girl that takes you through a montage of their life together, seeing their hopes and dreams lived and lost until they both reach their old age and one of them dies. The rest of the movie is the husband trying to fulfill the last wish they shared.

It includes inspirational lines such as: "Sometimes, just sometimes, when people say 'forever', they mean it."

It makes us believe that this kind of love is something we can all experience. Committing to love and staying by each other's side seems so simple and achievable. Maybe you'll be able to promise to do the same.

11. Love and Basketball (2000)

This urban love story starring Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps is the perfect balance of romance and sports, so it's a crowd-pleaser for both the guys and girls. The leading lady plays the tomboy next door who is just as passionate about basketball as the male lead. The two characters pursue their dreams of being professional basketball players. In doing so, they fall in love.

A wise quote from the movie is: "Life happens the way it's supposed to, not how we plan it."

This reminds us that we don't have control over how our lives turn out, but when love grows, it's because it was meant to be.

12. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

This movie is a cult classic and must be included in our list of movies to watch with bae. Rom-coms are the traditional date night genre, and this movie doesn't fail on delivering laughs and touching moments.

Almost everyone has heard of (or at least seen a reference to) the famous orgasm scene where Meg Ryan is in the middle of a restaurant demonstrating the noises she makes when she's in the throes of passion.

Enjoy lots of laughs with your girl with this feel-good film that will become one of your memories of the little things you loved doing together.
